Convention 2008
Well I’m home again after a very full on Convention in Brisbane.
I presented a Workshop Wow on the Friday morning, but I’m not sure it was very WOW as I was EXTREMELY nervous and very distracted by the mic system. SOOOO I’m putting a few notes here.
My Workshop was on how to colour with Markers.
I always use Watercolour Paper whenever colouring with the markers, as it gives you time to ‘work’ the colour. You also need to use Stazon, or permanent Ink so the colour wont bleed.
I started colouring the boat by drawing a line of colour along one edge of the image and using the aquapainter, pull the colour downwards. You can go back and add more colour to the image where you want more depth, and again blend it out.
I also like to outline my image with a grey marker. If the grey is too dark, just blend it with the aquapainter.
The shells in this card were coloured first with Sage Shadow and blended with Close To Cocoa, then to deepen it up, I added just a touch of Handsome Hunter. Another thing to remember is that the darker the colour, the less you have to use.
To colour the images in this card, I literally scribbled on So Saffron, Regal Rose and a touch of Rose Red, then starting at the yellow end, blend the aquapen through the saffron, into the regal rose and rose red, then back to the saffron again. It really is quick and very easy to do. Again, I’ve outlined the image in Grey.
The last card uses Summer Sun, Cameo Coral and Ruby Red, again just scribbled onto the image, blended from the light, into the dark and back again.
Just one last tip, I always keep a tissue right beside me to wipe the aquapainter if it gets too wet. I prefer to work with a dryish brush, otherwise i find the image floods too much.

Congrats Alisa on all your achievements over the weekend. Your ‘Wow’ was just that! Who wouldn’t be nervous being first up for the weekend with 300 faces staring back at you! I loved your watercolouring demo and really like the tip about using grey to give the image more depth. These card are just exquisite! This was my first convention with Yvonne Campbell as my upline an I absolutely had a ball and I’ll definitely be going back next year!
thanks for explaining how to use markers to colour. I never use them for colouring as I felt they were too dark and solid. Now I know how to use them properly I will give them a try. Can you use them on whisper white in this way?
