Create a Vintage Botanical Card with the Thankful Garden Bundle
Are you ready for another stunning new release? Stampin’ Up! has more exciting products coming on 4th March, and I couldn’t wait to dive into one of my favourites – the Stampin Up Thankful Garden Bundle. This bundle includes beautiful layering stencils, coordinating dies, and a versatile stamp set perfect for floral lovers. Today, I’m sharing a vintage botanical-inspired card, complete with distressing techniques and layered stenciling.
Choosing the Perfect Colours
For this project, I wanted a soft, vintage feel, so I turned to my Colour Companion AI Tool for guidance. Instead of going for traditional pink hydrangeas, I opted for a blue-based flower. My AI assistant suggested:
- Balmy Blue
- Fresh Freesia
- Misty Moonlight (for a cooler effect)
- Soft Sea Foam & Lost Lagoon for the leaves
This combination gave me the delicate, antique botanical illustration vibe I was after!

Creating the Background
To create a distressed vintage look, I:
- Used the Mini Corrugated Embossing Folder to add texture.
- Lightly sanded the embossed panel to reveal the white core of the Vanilla Two-Tone Cardstock.
- Ink-blended Crumb Cake around the edges to age the paper.
- Added watered-down Crumb Cake splatters for an aged effect.
- Tore and curled a corner to enhance the vintage charm.
Stencilling the Hydrangeas
The Stampin Up Thankful Garden Bundle contains layering stencils make colouring effortless. To achieve a realistic gradient effect, I:
- Applied Balmy Blue as the base.
- Layered Fresh Freesia lightly for variation.
- Used Misty Moonlight for added depth.
- Blended Soft Sea Foam & Lost Lagoon on the leaves for contrast.
This technique adds dimension and realism, making the flowers pop beautifully.
Assembling the Card
Once my Hydrangea and Background were ready, I:
- Matted the distressed Two-Tone Cardstock onto a Very Vanilla card base.
- Wrapped Crumb Cake twine around the panel for extra texture.
- Added the “Thankful for You, Friend” sentiment in Misty Moonlight and fussy-cut it.
- Used Dimensionals to lift the florals and sentiment.
- Embellished with Iridescent Pearls for a soft, elegant finish.
The Final Look
After all the layers and techniques, I was thrilled with the final vintage botanical feel. The soft textures, subtle distressing, and muted colours came together beautifully to create a card that’s both elegant and timeless.
