Friendly Foliage in Copper: Heat-Embossed Background + Double-Cut Dies
New month, new toys. Today we’re casing a gorgeous sample from the Stampin’ Up! Online Exclusives using the Stampin Up Friendly Foliage Bundle with the Lasting Linen background stamp—and giving it my own spin with copper heat embossing, soft neutrals and a crisp sentiment strip. If you love organic layers, subtle texture and a quick win that still looks luxurious, this one’s for you.

The Look and Palette
I’ve paired Basic Beige with Old Olive and Pretty Peacock. The hero is a full heat-embossed Lasting Linen background in Copper. It’s rich, warm and a beautiful match for earthy greens and blues. A white-embossed “Just a Note” (from Beautiful Motifs) and a double linen thread bow finish the card with classic simplicity.
Why Stampin Up Friendly Foliage Bundle?
The Friendly Foliage Bundle shines because the main foliage image coordinates with two different dies: one cuts the outline, and the second removes the inner spaces for a delicate, airy look. You can:
- Cut the outline only for a bold, filled design, or
- Double-cut (outline + detail) for a lacy, intricate overlay.
That flexibility means more looks from one stamp—excellent value and perfect for fast cards that still feel designed.
Key Techniques and Time-Saving Tips
1) Season your background stamp
New photopolymer can be a tad slick. Before first use, rub the palm of your hand lightly over the surface. It “seasons” the stamp for better ink or VersaMark coverage.
2) Anti-static always
Use an embossing powder tool (the “pillow”) before stamping with VersaMark. It reduces stray flecks—especially important on large backgrounds.
3) Full-panel embossing
Ink the Lasting Linen generously with VersaMark and stamp onto Basic Beige. Sprinkle with Copper Embossing Powder and heat until smooth and shiny. For speed, pre-warm your heat tool; a warmed barrel melts powder more evenly across big areas.
4) Old Olive + Pretty Peacock two-tone stamping
Ink the main foliage in Old Olive. To add depth, softly dab Pretty Peacock onto a few leaves with a sponge (or a sponge dauber). This creates natural shading without extra colouring.
5) The double-cut die trick
Die-cut the foliage with the outline die, then line up the detail die and run it through again to remove the inner pieces. Result: a beautifully filigreed spray that feels light yet substantial.
6) Adhering to embossing
Highly embossed backgrounds can resist tape runners. Use a strong liquid adhesive to “nestle” into the embossed valleys for a secure bond.
7) Sentiment placement that works hard
White-emboss “Just a Note” on an Old Olive strip. Adhere over the foliage so that it overlaps for visual cohesion. If you’ve made a smudge (it happens), strategic embellishment is your friend—cover with a bow.
8) Linen Thread, doubled
Cut two lengths of Linen Thread, tie together for a slightly chunkier bow, and adhere with mini glue dots. The doubled thread balances the bold copper texture without stealing focus.
Make It Yours
- Swap metals: Try Gold for a brighter festive look or Black for modern drama.
- Change the mood: Replace Pretty Peacock with Lost Lagoon for softer foliage, or use Mossy Meadow for deeper contrast.
- Layer play: Keep the foliage solid (outline-only cut) when your background is busy; go double-cut when you want extra lightness.
