Create a Rich, Cosy Christmas Card with Delicate Pines
If you love traditional Christmas colours and lots of layers, today’s project is for you. In my 13 November Thursday Live I pulled out the Stampin Up Delicate Pines Bundle and revisited a design I first created about eleven years ago. This time I updated it with a deeper, richer palette and a few extra techniques to really make those pine snowflakes shine.

We are working with a bold colour combination: Cherry Cobbler, Shaded Spruce and Pecan Pie, plus the essential touch of Basic White. It is a strong palette – perfect if you adore that cosy, winter-Christmas feel, even if (like us here in Australia) you are celebrating in the middle of summer. Delicate Pines is ideal for this look, with its elegant, dainty snowflakes made from pine sprigs and classic Christmas sentiments.
Building the layers and texture
This card is unapologetically old-school in the best possible way: double layers, full embossing on the card front, and a separate embossed panel on top. I ran both Cherry Cobbler layers through an embossing folder to create deep texture, then softened it with gentle ink blending around the edges. Tone-on-tone blending in the same ink as your cardstock is a simple way to add richness without introducing extra colours.
The Shaded Spruce panel is also double matted, keeping that traditional red–green pairing strong. Because the layers are so fine, I used liquid glue so I could wiggle everything into place. Do not be afraid of a “beefy” card – the dimension and weight add to that luxurious, gift-like feel.
Subtle stamping with Pecan Pie
Pecan Pie is the wildcard in this combination. To help it settle into the design, I turned it into a soft, patterned background. I used the tiny snowflake-style image from Stampin Up Delicate Pines Bundle and stamped “randomly” over the Pecan Pie panel using a triangle pattern (stamp one, then create little groups of three) to keep things even without looking too regimented.
A quick blend of Pecan Pie ink around the edges ties it all together and stops the panel looking flat. This strip sits across the lower section of the card, giving your eye somewhere to rest between all the deep red and green.
Delicate Pines focal image and sentiment
For the focal point, I brought in a crisp Basic White panel to break up all that colour. Over the top I stamped one of the snowflake pine images very lightly in second and third generation ink to create a soft, misty background. I added more ink blending, holding the blending brush further back on the handle helped keep the pressure light and the inking subtle.
The hero snowflakes are stamped and white heat embossed on both Cherry Cobbler and Shaded Spruce, then die cut with the coordinating Delicate Pines dies. The white embossing really lifts these deep colours and adds instant “snowy” magic. A simple white Baker’s Twine wrap adds another light element and a touch of texture without overpowering the design.
The sentiment “Celebrate the Season” is stamped in Cherry Cobbler on Basic White, trimmed into a strip and very softly inked around the edges to coordinate with the rest of the card. I popped it up across the pines to anchor the whole design.
Finishing touches: splatter and shine
To finish, I added white ink splatter across the background for that snowy, wintery look. You could also use Wink of Stella for a more sparkly, frosted effect. Between the embossing, ink blending, splatter and all the layers, you end up with a beautifully rich, textural Christmas card that feels like a warm hug.
