Baby Wipe Technique Meets Garden Gatherings

Some crafting techniques never go out of style, and the Baby Wipe Technique is definitely one of them. Although it has been around for years, it’s one that I haven’t explored nearly enough—and after revisiting it during this week’s live, I can honestly say I’ll be reaching for it more often! In fact, I’ve got some other ideas for the Swiping style.

For this project I paired the beautiful Garden Gatherings Bundle with the timeless Baby Wipe Technique to create soft, variegated floral images full of colour and interest. Combined with a textured embossed background and layered circles, the finished card has plenty of detail while still keeping a clean and elegant feel.

What is the Baby Wipe Technique?

The Baby Wipe Technique transforms an ordinary baby wipe into a temporary ink pad. By adding drops of reinker directly onto a folded baby wipe, you create a beautifully blended surface that inks your stamp with multiple colours at once.

For today’s flowers I used:

Granny Apple Green for the stems
Melon Mambo
Lemon Lolly

The combination of Melon Mambo and Lemon Lolly created gorgeous blended petals with natural variations that simply aren’t possible with a traditional ink pad.

One thing I particularly love is that every impression is slightly different, making each flower unique.

Tips for Success

A few little tricks made the technique work even better.

Use a Water-Based Baby Wipe

Choose baby wipes that are primarily water based. This helps prevent any unwanted reaction with your stamps while allowing the ink to blend beautifully across the surface.

Don’t Be Afraid to Stamp Twice

If your first impression isn’t quite bold enough, simply re-ink the stamp and stamp directly over the top again. Because you’re using a photopolymer stamp, lining it back up is easy, giving you a richer, more vibrant image.

Change the Colour Placement

By rotating your stamp before inking, you can pick up different areas of colour from the baby wipe. This creates flowers with different colour balances while still using exactly the same ink pad.

Don’t Throw the Baby Wipe Away!

One of my favourite discoveries was what happens after you’ve finished stamping.

Instead of throwing the baby wipe in the bin, gently swipe it across a piece of Basic White cardstock. You’ll be left with a gorgeous abstract background full of blended colour that can be die cut into flowers, labels or other embellishments for future projects.

It’s a wonderful way to stretch your supplies and get even more from one simple technique.

Building the Card

The floral arrangement sits inside a sweet little vase created using the coordinating dies from the Garden Gatherings Bundle.

Rather than using a solid coloured vase, I die cut one directly from the blended baby wipe background. This unexpected choice tied all the colours together beautifully and added another layer of interest without introducing additional cardstock colours.

Behind the arrangement, multiple die cut circles create a modern layered backdrop over the gorgeous new Softly Woven Embossing Folder, which adds subtle texture without overwhelming the focal image.

A touch of Linen Thread around the vase keeps the design soft and natural, while a few white sparkly embellishments finish the card without competing with the flowers.

Why This Design Works

Although there are several layers and techniques involved, the project still feels fresh and uncluttered because the colour palette remains limited. The repeated circles create movement across the card, while the embossed background adds texture that supports rather than competes with the focal arrangement.

It’s a lovely reminder that older techniques can feel brand new when paired with fresh products.
