I thought it was time for a little Q & A Time!

 

What kind of craftwork do you do with stamps?

I mainly stamp cards, but have also done scrapbooking. Stamping isn’t just limited to paper though, you can stamp on many different mediums.

Do you do both stamping and scrapbooking? And are they synonymous with each other or are they two completely different crafts?

Yes, I do both Stamping and Scrapbooking, although the Stamping tends to outweigh the Scrapbooking. I always try to stamp on my layouts. They are synonymous with each other, many stamping techniques can be used in scrapbooking.

Where did your interest in stamping begin?

My interest began 5 years ago, when I joined a craft party plan company. I’ve always been a bit crafty, but had never stamped before.

What attracted you to starting this as a craft and a business?

Stamping came after I had joined a Party Plan company, as for the business, I wanted something that would bring in a little extra money but so that I could also be at home with my young family.

How did you learn the basics of stamping?

I’m a self taught stamper, a lot of my basics came from other websites and magazines, as did the more advanced techniques.

Where do you look for inspiration when you are beginning a new project?

Inspiration generally comes from the stamp itself, or the colour of cardstock I’m using. If I’m experiencing a creative block, I’ll often resort to a Sketch Layout (drawing of where the different cardstock and stamped image are to be placed)

What is the most difficult technique you have had to learn and why?

I think colouring is a difficult technique, it is really hard to learn the use of shading, and not colour in the entire area as we did in school. Colouring can really make or break a card I think.

What do you find most pleasing about stamping?

I really like that I can make a few cards in one evening, and have my projects completed in a short time. I also quilt, and it frustrates me that it takes so long. (I do all mine by hand)

Why would you suggest stamping as a craft for someone looking for a new hobby?

For me Stamping is something I do to unwind in the evening, you can create great artwork in a short time, and I love giving cards. 🙂

Have you got any advice for people that are considering it?

Definitely get a really good black inkpad, don’t be afraid to try new things, and don’t give up if you don’t achieve the look you are after, just keep trying.
