Magical Christmas Hot Foiling with Graceful Evergreen Deer
Hot foiling is such a lovely way to add something special to a handmade Christmas card, and the new Stampin’ Up! Hot Foil products coming in September make it easy.
For this card, I combined the Graceful Evergreen Deer Bundle with the Magical Christmas Hot Foil Dies, creating a quick Christmas card with plenty of shine and wow factor. I CASEd the basic design from a Stampin’ Up! sample, but changed the colours to give it a brighter, more playful feel.

Graceful Evergreen Deer Bundle
There are two new tree-themed bundles coming in September, but the Graceful Evergreen Deer Bundle was the one that caught my eye. I loved the softly detailed tree stamps, but it was the beautiful hot foiled deer that really made the decision for me.
The bundle offers plenty of options, even if you don’t own a hot foil system. The trees can be stamped on their own, while the deer dies could also be used to cut solid silhouettes from cardstock. You could even experiment with using the deer plates for dry embossing before die cutting them.

Hot Foiling with Silver Opal Foil
I used the new Silver Opal Foil for both the deer and the sentiment. It has an almost holographic finish, catching the light with subtle flashes of colour.

To create the sentiment, I heated the Magical Christmas Hot Foil Die, placed the Silver Opal Foil and Strawberry Slush cardstock over it, and slowly rolled the complete sandwich through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine.
One important tip is to make sure your cardstock completely covers the foil. If the foil extends beyond the cardstock, you may end up with unwanted foiling on your cutting plate or surrounding surface.
The Magical Christmas Hot Foil Dies create several sentiments and small decorative pieces in one pass. Matching alignment squares appear on both the foiled image and the coordinating cutting die, making it much easier to position everything correctly before die cutting.

Creating the Stamped Background
The background was stamped on Basic White cardstock using the two evergreen tree images in Balmy Blue. I added the ground and scattered dots in Crumb Cake, stamping some of the dots off first to create a softer effect.
Stamping off is particularly useful when your ink pad is very juicy. It gives you more control and prevents the smaller background details from overpowering the main images.
The stamped panel was layered onto Balmy Blue card base. I then raised the hot foiled deer and sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals before adding a little bling to finish the card.
A Quick Christmas Card with Wow Factor
This design would be perfect for making Christmas cards in multiples. The background stamping is quick, and the hot foil system allows you to create several deer and sentiments in advance. Once everything is prepared, assembling the cards takes very little time.
You could also change the look completely by using gold, copper, red or green foil.
The combination of Balmy Blue, Strawberry Slush, Crumb Cake and Silver Opal Foil gives this Christmas card a fresh, modern feel while still keeping that lovely festive magic.
