Hot Linking
Touchy subject I know, but I have noticed a few people who have hot linked from/to my site.
I ask you to please not do this, as it increases my bandwidth use, which costs me alot more money to have my blog running.
Here’s a definition on hot linking
“Hotlinking” (also called “hot linking”, “leeching”, and “bandwidth theft”) is a term referring to when a web page of one website owner is direct linking to the images or other multimedia files on the web host of another website owner (usually without permission, thus stealing bandwidth). This not only causes the other person to pay for the bandwidth of the hotlinked file, but often is intellectual property theft.Â

ETA: using a link is not hotlinking, that’s fine. Â It’s when you copy an image and paste it straight to your website without saving it to your computer first.

Can you please tell me if you can “hotlink” and not know that you’re doing it? I’ve read about this topic but not sure exactly how it happens. Is it when you copy and paste a sample? or when you post a link? I like giving credit when I case samples found on the web but am now concerned I might be hotlinking and not realize it. Thanks for any help or clarification you can offer.
